Portable mail folders

Over the years, I continually ran into problems storing received email. I'd be using the email client in Netscape suite, for example, and then do a Linux upgrade, or transition to Evolution, and run into the task of having to migrate all my stored and categorised emails to the new client's database.

Having become frustrated with the bugginess of the version of Evolution I was using last year, I finally decided to address the issue, to allow me to test-drive Thunderbird. I decided to run a local IMAP server, and use that to file emails I wanted to keep.

I chose Cyrus for its apparent robustness, and because it claimed to support replication - I thought this may prove useful in automatically backing up my mail folders to my home slug (this is TBD).

The standard package for SUSE 10.3 has been working well.

By the time I got this done, Evolution had overcome a lot of the instability, and, after trying out Thunderbird, I found I had got used to the quirks of Evolution and went back. On occasion, it has proved useful to have an alternate mail client when some mail message causes Evolution to crash.
